CUPS CUPS AND MORE CUPS:
Disposable cups are becoming a noticeable part of our daily lives. From coffee drinks to to-go sodas, disposable cups are a quick fix for a fast world. At the University of Oregon, we are working hard to help people reduce their disposable cup use. REDUCE, REUSE, REFILL is a campaign created by students to help students reduce their impact on the global waste stream while also reducing the use of valuable resources for disposables. The campaign has been so successful that students are hoping to expand this from an Earthday campaign to a daily reminder.
We have our work cut out for us-getting people into refillables, educating the public that the disposable cups are NOT recyclable and working with local coffee and to-go places to encourage refill discounts are at the heart of this campaign. Ideally, we'd like to see this help create a culture where conservation is the rule and waste is the exception-Charge for waste! We're trying to convince outlets to be brave and charge people for what they use-in that world, people would pay extra for a cup or a shopping bag! And in the meantime, whatever it takes to reduce disposables!
So, grab your refillable cup, save some resources, keep your waste out of the landfill and encourage your favorite beverage stops to promote the use of refillables! Saving the world, one cup at a time!

It not only gets students to use refillable cups more,
But also educates them about how much better it is for the environment.
