Welcome to the University of Oregon Campus Zero Waste Program. The Program was founded by students in 1991 and continues to be staffed by mostly student employees. In 2012, the Program took a leap to become the Campus Zero Waste Program. As the program began with recycling it has evolved to include reuse, waste reduction, composting and zero waste events. Thus, the Program has taken on a new path of zero waste.

Thanks for thinking zero waste and enjoy this website. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or comments:

THE LATEST & GREATEST AT THE CAMPUS ZERO WASTE PROGRAM

Hi Zero Wasters,
CAMPUS ZERO WASTE PROGRAM NEEDS YOUR HELP
TO CAPTURE REUSABLES AND RECYCLABLES
DURING END OF YEAR MOVE-OUTS!

WHAT
The Spring 2015 Campus Move-Outs are quickly approaching and the UO Zero Waste Program
is seeking Zero Waste volunteers to help during this hectic time of year.
Many recyclable and reusable items end up on the landfill when on-campus
residents move away from campus and get rid of unwanted items in a hurry.
Volunteers are needed to staff recycling/waste stations to help divert these items from the landfill.

WHEN
Volunteers are needed for the 3 final and busiest days of Spring Finals Week:
Wednesday, June 10th – 11am-6pm
Thursday, June 11th – 11am-6pm
Friday, June 12th – 8am-6pm
A 3 hour shift minimum is preferred.

LAST YEAR’S RESULTS
In 2014, Campus Zero Waste staff and volunteer efforts contributed to the 30+ tons of reusable goods
collected and redistributed by the Springfield Public Schools Family Resource Centers
in our local community.  We can make a difference again this year with your help!

NEW!!! PORTABLE WATER REFILL STATIONS
available to set-up at campus events!

Contact Campus Operations Customer Service with your campus index,

to order these for your event! 541-346-2319
THINK BEFORE you drink: GO REFILLABLE!

HOW IT WORKS:

  • there are two units available
  • a hose is attached inside each unit and water is supplied from water hook-ups located throughout campus
  • cost for set-up and take down is based on current per hour labor charge-out rate from Campus Operations.
  • set-up and take down include:  hauling from storage, siting the units for the event by a water source, hook-up and flushing with a bleach solution prior to use, take apart of equipment, hauling and storage.  This can take between 3-4 hours each depending on ease of set-up.  Use of 2 reduces costs except in the set-up as each one would be set-up separately
  • any damage to units incurred at event will be responsibility of the event
  • set-up costs for all events is labor intensive

Project Polar Bear
Project Polar Bear is a way for small teams of young people
and groups/classrooms to collectively make a big difference!
The bi-national contest challenges young leaders to develop community projects that reduce the
carbon dioxide load in the atmosphere.
especially those that engage and sustain community action.
